Yes I know you got excited by the mention of style icon Alexa Chung in the title but then words failed you when you saw the mention of mum- no I’m not referring to her own mother in case you were wondering.
The latest fashion project of the 32 y/o British fashion model is a clothing line with M&S called ‘Archive’.
M&S, established in 1884, tasked the fashion guru with exploring their archives of clothing past and designing a collection that both celebrated the brand’s history and reassembled how far they’ve come marrying both old and current trends. The collection is very unique and it’s definitely one of the most special projects Chung has been part of as she says herself.
I’ve always loved Alexa Chung. Her cool, lady like cool chic style is so stylish and effortless. In fact during my French Oral exam I discussed the topic of Fashion and actually spoke about Alexa as my style icon. I’m obsessed with shirt collars and so this is definitely one style we both share, but obviously only one of us looks to the other for inspo.
However not everyone is a fan of Chung. British mum and blogger, Alison Stankard has come forward with an alternative campaign idea for the British Retail brand. Stankard is the creator of blog ‘Totes Inappropes’. The blog focuses on parenting and fashion in a very light-hearted humorous tone. This mom of three doesn’t take herself too seriously, and readers warm to her thanks to her funny personality and quirky personal style.
Stankards view is that M&S should be using models who are real everyday people and she puts herself forward for the job. In her open letter to M&S on Facebook she pitches herself saying “I can advertise your bastion of British style in a none threatening size 12 warts and all kind of way”. Ya gotta give the momma props for her confidently and bravely selling herself openly on social media.
As she puts it Chung is “very edgy and cool and let’s face it, everybody would like to be her but let’s be honest we are all a bit sick with envy at her. I mean she’s got near perfect legs and is so beautiful that Alex Turner has written a whole album about how he hasn’t got over her yet.”
Oh Yes people she did she went there with the break-up.
I love Alexa but this woman is hilarious so I find it dislike her or say she’s being ridiculous. She says she regularly shops there and it would be very cool if M&S teamed up with a blogger mom for a clothing line.

I feel so tired from this month- May has certainly used up a lot of my energy and kept my mind buzzing.
The first week of May marked the end of my first year in college…WaaaaaaT! It doesn’t seem real, I keep asking myself where that year went. I already have made lots of plans for my second year already! This includes planning events for the NUI Galway Style Society, the society blog and other groups I’m volunteering for.
One things for sure, I am very happy to see the end of all the study. The Leaving cert’s will hate me for saying that but don’t worry guys ye’re almost there!Watch this space because in August I’ll be doing a post about what to expect when you start college. 🙂
The high of finishing exams was also met with warm welcome of the sunny summer weather Ireland saw at the weekend (of that first week).
My brother was home from England for a couple of days so I stayed at home hanging with the family and getting my tan on. Some days my snapchat read 17/18’c but I swear it would feel hotter. We went for a brunch on the Sunday to this cafe in Galway called Tosnú. It’s on Abbeygate street beside the juice cafe raw. The staff are so lovely, they do an all-day breakfast AND it’s very reasonable, you could even say student pocket friendly. Unfortunately I forgot to take snaps of the menu or my meal but I will be back and hopefully will remember to then!
Now the beginning of my summer holidays also marked something else- the rush to get a job. I won’t go on and on about this because you’ll all know about it by now from my past posts. But there have been some signs of hope…This week I have been going to a few different trials at businesses around Galway. I want to talk about this again though because I’m thinking of doing a few tips posts about job hunting, interview clothing attire and I want to do a CV how to post also.
Long story short, it was a really great experience to work for a day in these places; I went to a retail shop, cafe’s and I did a group interview also. This was all organised and completed within the space of three days, so you can imagine by Thursday I fully understood the meaning of the word exhausted. Now I just have to play the waiting game and hope that get that call! I was told it could be a few days so I’m trying not to glue my eyes to my phone-well, no more than usual at least 🙂
Well this is too easy. My reality tv obsession is definitely being attended to with the juicy drama of shows such as Made in Chelsea, Geordie Shore and the return of The Hills to Mtv (just a re-run not new episodes). What more could I ask for! I’ve also fallen for First Dates Ireland which is so cute and cheesy, it really reinforces my love of the Irish humour and the special characters that live on this island. The bad news that May TV brought was the finale of season 12 of Grey’s Anatomy. ***SPOILER ALERT*** who else is absolutely shipping Riggs and Mer, and oh my the intense birth of Jackson and April’s baby<it’s a girl aww 🙂 > wonder what they’ll call her?!
Now that the sunshine has arrived- on and off yes but still it’s there- I have returned to my love for sunglasses. For my birthday my sister bought me these gorgeous mirror silver shades from the thrift market in Galway, they’re from a local Galway business called Cotton Face Vintage (Link below). My birthday was in September, but I didn’t want to waste these sunnies on dreary days of no sunshine. I put them away to save them for the summer and now they are out and shining! I’m not 100% sure but I think they cost €15 but don’t hold me to that, I’m sure if you message Sinead at Cotton Face she’ll let you know!

I do the bulk of my book reading this time of year. I actually have a summer booklist that I’m putting together for June/July/August. I might even do a post about it. Currently though I’m reading ‘Lucky’ by Alice Sebold. She also wrote the book ‘The Lovely Bones’. This story is about when she was raped while in her first year of college. I haven’t finished it yet but I will say that it is an intense read and I will warn you that there is graphic imagery. On my to read list is actually the popular book ‘The Luckiest Girl Alive’ by Jessica Knoll, which also deals with a girl dealing with her youth past and her rape. Unbeknown to readers at first this book is actually based on Knoll’s own experience of her being raped. I would recommend as preparation for this book that you read Sebold’s. If you’ve read either of these let me know what you thought of them in the comments below but please *NO SPOILERS!*
-Spending my time…-
Blogging and taking pics. I have to say I am really proud of the pictures I took for the post about the facial scrub. My dad has a Canon EOS 1100D camera and lately especially I’ve really been enjoying whipping it out and posing objects and taking pics. Don’t get me wrong, the iphone camera is very good, but there’s something special about taking a quality professional camera and just snapping away. It’s so fun and allows me to be so creative, in a different way writing allows me to. And because the days are longer means more opportunities to snap the day away. I also feel like good quality pictures will elevate my blog.
I don’t yet have plans for June. I’m hoping that I’ll be working, blogging, doing more photography and enjoying myself.
Oh and more sunshine so I can get a proper tan 🙂
Did you do anything interesting this May? I’d love to hear, or even list some ideas on how to spend the summer!
So in my last post I shared some ideas that I had for buying gifts for your sisters and friends. Today I thought I’d do a similar post but with gift ideas for the men in your lives. I have two brothers and I know that it is hard to know what to get them especially when I actually ask them and they reply with ‘whatever’. Yes very helpful I know, so I searched all over the internet and here’s what I found.
So my brother Jack has this thing about clothes where he wears them as soon as he buys them or gets something as a gift. Which is why on christmas day he leaves it to one of us in the family to essentially sort out what he’ll wear by giving him a shirt or jacket as a present. If you think this is like your brother too then check out these clothes below.
As I said in my last post I always think it’s nice to give someone a book for christmas. It may seem like an intimidating job going into a bookshop and being welcomed by hundreds of books and having the task of choosing one. But have no fear because I’m going to try and simplify and de-stress this experience for you. The first thing to consider is what kind of a person they are and what hobbies they have. My dad like photography, my eldest brother is obsessed with cars and my other brother is currently studying an art and design course. Think of those type of things and then you have a category of books to look at and from there you just choose whichever one fits your budget and seems the most appealing 🙂 Here a few options!
Alrighty dolls I think that’s all I’ve got to share for now. Tomorrow I’m continuing my christmas shopping, my aim is to have it all completely sorted by the end of the week. I hope this helps and gives you some inspiration. Amazon is great for books and tech stuff. ALways check to see if there are discount codes available to use at the checkout. Most importantly take note of the dates for final shipping before christmas. The last thing you want is to order something that won’t arrive until after the holidays.
Bye for now
(Like last time none of the companies mentioned above have asked me to mention their websites or products. These are all just my own personal recommendations. All photos used are either from the websites mentioned or google images)
I think we can all agree that this is one of the best times of the year. However, it can also be one of the most stressful! This week I finished my exams and I can now start getting my christmas shopping organised. As I went on my merry way around the shops first getting ideas I started to think about the gift guides that we see everywhere and I don’t know about ye but I don’t any of them particularly helpful, they’re usually not in my price range or the gift ideas don’t suit anyone I know. So here’s my gift guide, a very reasonable price range and really nice things!
I thought I’d divide this into two posts a his and hers if you like, and ladies first! 🙂
Ok so this is definitely on my xmas wishlist! I’ve swatched the colours and they’re all fab! This is a great pressie because the shades are perfect for day to night wear and its really value for money. I priced this palette in Cara pharmacy for €15 BARGAIN! 🙂 I love the matte browns and that gorge black for a cool smoky eye effect. Now this is just my personal opinion because I definitely don’t claim to be a makeup expert, I’m definitely what you call amateur! 😀
Alright so I always think jewellery is a really nice gift to receive because there’s something so personal about it. One of my favourite pieces this year have been my two Alex and Ani bracelets. The entire collection is so simple and pretty and very special too because there’s nothing quite like them. This is one of the bracelets I have and its called the path of life II bangle in russian gold. I love that the gold is sort of rustic. This bangle costs €36 in the Kilkenny shop. If you’d like to buy a more personal bangle they also do ones with birthstones too and the bangles also come in silver! Here’s the link to check this bangle on the official Kilkenny page~ http://www.kilkennyshop.com/brands/alex-and-ani/alex-and-ani-path-of-life-ii-gold.html
Ok so I have had an obsession with bags for as long as I can remember, at one point I had over 50 and that was around my early teens. I go through different stages of wanting a big tote style to a mini, at the moment I’m using a tote but how cute is this mini black winged tote from River Island! They have some of the nicest purses and bags and they’re all generally reasonable enough. This bag in particular is priced at €45. A very lovely pressie for the bestie or sis! Link: http://eu.riverisland.com/women/bags–purses/shopper–tote-bags/black-mini-zip-winged-tote-handbag-678306
And to go along with the River Island purse loving, I had to include this here because I love the metallic pastel colours! The back and interior is black so it’ll still match the bag while also adding a pop of colour to the duo! This purse costs €22 and River Island purses are known to be durable and spacious so this really is a good deal! 🙂 Link: http://eu.riverisland.com/women/bags–purses/purses/grey-metallic-patchwork-purse-675923
I really think you can never go wrong by giving someone a book for christmas. It doesn’t have to be a novel or serious classic, it can just be book on a topic they’re interested in. Books by celebrities is always a safe bet. Millie Mackintosh has released a book called Made and I was definitely excited when I was given this for my birthday! Millie is one of my style icons and this book provides with a little view into how she dresses as well as other things in her life. I found this book for £8 (can’t get a € price ) on amazon. The best thing about online shopping is that its shipped right to your door so you can skip the mayhem of the shops and long queues! Oh dear god I fell in love with this watch the moment I saw that monochrome strap! How fricken cool is this guys! My taste in watches is simplicity. I like either plain black or brown straps and a plain watch face. I’m not really into big gold fancy and glitzy watches. If you’re like me or your friend is then this watch is perfection! The black and white strap adds a little something yet the entire watch remains classic and pretty! New look I have noticed are doing some lovely watches. This one in particular is such a steal at €14.99 😀
Another watch but a different style is this rose gold one, also from New look. Rose gold is so stunning on everyone and a very popular trend this year! This watch is more dainty and girlier than the above. I think this would make a lovely dressy watch (one to wear going out/special occasions) because of its bracelet style. Only just a bit more money yet still very reasonable at €22.99
Other ideas that can never go wrong are spa vouchers! These are perfect for all our hard-working mothers. To go along with this could be a voucher for your sister or godmother or aunt or whoever you like to get their nails done. If you wanted to get your parents a joint gift then definitely a voucher for a restaurant is sweet! Don’t be afraid to give someone a voucher thinking its not personal enough-because depending on the voucher it actually still can be a thoughtful pressie!
When buying gifts I think it’s important to try and stay relaxed about it and not stress too much because after all it’s christmas- the time for cheer! Organisation is key here! Before I actually go shopping I go out and roam through the shops and get ideas and take down lists of things I see that I think someone would like. I also pay attention to the not so subtle hints that are dropped around the lead up to xmas- mom this is definitely directed at you! 😀 Try to pick gifts that show some thought like a book someone has always wanted to read or a charm for a bracelet.
Alrighty dolls I think I’ll finish up here, I have a few more gift ideas that I definitely want to share so check back to see when the post is uploaded. 🙂
Happy Shopping and Merry Christmas!
xo Georgia 🙂
