Blogging.

Hello Lovelies.

Happy Sunday. I’m feeling creative today so I really wanted to get the laptop out and get typing.

I had this conversation earlier with my brother about blogging. He made the comment that blogging has become almost annoying as today, everyone and their mother call themselves bloggers.

This is something that put me off blogging for ages, and still sometimes does as I am reluctant to tell anyone that I have a blog.

You see I never like doing what everyone is doing. I like to do my own thing, be my own person in so many ways.

But I really like the idea of blogging. I love bloggers who pour their hearts out to their online readers. I love the opportunity of connecting with others across the world whom I have shared interests. I love that it’s a place where you can literally do/write anything.

The thing I don’t like is the way blogging is perceived. It’s not exactly a respected hobby/profession.

I’ve also found it hard to even figure out what I want to do with my blog. I’m not really sure which genre it follows or what type of things I want to talk about. To me my blog is still new and I’m still figuring out how this all works.

I know I want to bring content that causes people to think more about something and chat about something new. I’d love to build a great discussion in the comments section. I know I’ve uploaded posts about “the ideal summer” or “DIY Facial scrub” or even a couple shopping posts, but looking at them now I know they aren’t things I want to share here.

So sorry if you enjoyed them, there won’t really be any more.

What I imagine my blog to be is like a magazine. Full of articles regarding different topics, basically human interest pieces and real news.

I really don’t know how long I’ll last here, maybe I’ll keep going for years and maybe this will be the last post. (But probably not though) ๐Ÿ™‚

I really want to be a sort of Carrie Bradshaw type. I just want to type out a post as the thoughts come to my mind. Real life pondering from an 18 y/o Irish girl. Honesty and definitely realism.

I don’t care about the stats or the idea of making this into a business. I’m just here to speak my mind and explore my passion for writing.

Now that we’re into the second half of the year I’m going to consider this a fresh start for my blog. Expect the same but I suppose a little different also ๐Ÿ™‚

Inspiration vs. Originality

Hello Lovelies.

Today’s topic of discussion is creativity and digital influencers.

Processed with VSCO with b1 preset

So in the age of the bloggers and vloggers, instagrammers and the youtube famous the issue of creativity; ย we’re more often now seeing up and coming creators echo the works of the greater more settled digital influencers.

First of all, up until 5 years ago (in my opinion) blogging wasn’t really a thing. It ย certainly wasn’t at the level of popularity it is now.. As for vlogging, well, ‘vlogs’ were actually referred to as ‘follow me around’ videos.

Now that the road has been paved, more and more (including myself) have decided to bring their own voice to the growing circle.

But as is always the case with creativity, sometimes the writers block monster can pop up and desperation kicks in. Imagine a tumbleweed rolling past in your brain, representing a lack of ideas.

You’re stumped. Ya got nothing.NIL. Squat.Nada… ย  ย (Ok I think you get the point.)

It’s so easy to look to other outlets for inspiration, and get ideas that aren’t exactly truly yours.

On the other-hand, it can also be laziness. Sometimes bloggers/vloggers see another get great success from one post or video or a certain use of editing or music and wham bam! It’s ‘hey that works, guess I’ll do it too’.

A lot of the time people want views. Hey I have a blog I get it. But seriously. I don’t think you’ll get anywhere by mimicking the work of another. Think about it. They got where they are because THEY DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

This idea of inspiration vs. originality came to me when I saw a twitter convo take place during the week between a few youtube vloggers.

The topic was youtuber Casey Neistat whose channel has grown by the millions in just a few years. Neistat is very popular for his impeccable, creative and stunning videography skills that produce the most beautiful raw footage. (And also his relaxed cool guy persona)

If you’re into vlogging he is your go-to for motivation and inspiration. However, others have also tried to imitate the youtubers vlogging style from music to angles to edits for their own road to success.

The argument unfolded when fellow youtube vlogger, Steve Booker, called out those who seem to be copycats of Neistat and how disappointing it is. But another twitter user felt Booker’s tweet actually had the potential to negatively affect others who might be considering starting a vlog channel or who are new vloggers.

Here the conversation unfolds in the following tweets by Booker, Neistat, and another vlogger; George Benson, as well as other fans of the youtubers and twitter users.

Neistat, who Ivell is actually a fan of, didn’t agree with his point that Booker’s tweet might dissuade other vloggers, felt that copycats ruin youtube.

In my opinion, he has a point. Because copying is pointless. What would people watch your videos when they’ve already got a source for that style content from another well-established channel. The same goes for blogs.

I try to be as original as I can, but I will acknowledge that some of my posts are similar to other pages.

It’s hard as creators to always be unique, Be you not someone else. But sometimes when you really idolise someone, or love what their doing you just want to hop on that trend and get going yourself.

The important thing to remember is that we all bring something different. The internet is a big place and there’s room for all of us.

Success takes time. But you won’t get far if you don’t work in your own style.

You were born an original, so why die a copy?

Love that quote. *Not mine, but I always see it on pinterest.

Here’s to those creative juices flowing! ๐Ÿ™‚

April Fools

Hey dolls!

April fools, not really a day I’ve ever bothered too much about but this year the day of joking got me thinking.

According to wikipedia definitions, April Fools day is a day whereby people play practical jokes on one another and spread hoaxes. The idea is that you make someone believe something and then when they learn the truth you all have a good laugh about it. Having said that, sometimes people go too far and instead of making a funny prank/joke they instead hurt and insult others.

An example of this that I’m thinking of is the one where a woman announces she pregnant and before the end of the day shouts “April fools I’m kidding I’m not pregnant”.

On the day of April 1st I saw two women in particular announce their “pregnancy” on social media. Both were very influential females with a significant fan base. Singer, Gwen Stefani and Fashion and lifestyle blogger Chriselle Lim.

Gwen posted a sonogram picture of a baby with the caption “It’s a girl”. Now Gwen did later defend her action by saying she was making fun of the tabloids who continuously claim she’s pregnant. While she never intended to hurt anyones feelings surely she could understand that by posting a joke like this would ruffle some feathers, especially as she is a mother herself

.

Blogger Chriselle dropped the bombshell on her snapchat before later appearing with her daughter ( 1 year old chloe) and admitting she was lying. Again a mother herself, could she not predict that this was an insensitive joke. Fans even heard the blogger explain further that she has friends going through IVF treatment and that her and husband Allen would like to one day have another child.

I’m not losing my crap over this. I don’t agree with their choice of hoax for the day but I do understand that they were not intentionally hurting anyones feeling.

Still this just goes to show that you never know what someones going through and what might hurt them. As two women who have lots of followers I would have expected they not be so naive and have more respect for them. Maybe the two have learnt their lessons.

*I will still continue to follow Chriselles blog journey just fyi. I am not hating on either women, merely just discussing their actions. We all make mistakes anyway.

So guys what do you think? Did they go too far or are some of us just not able to take the joke and run with it? Let me know in the comments.

Now to lighten up the mood a little ! ๐Ÿ˜€

I just replaced the can of air freshener in the office bathroom with an air horn. And now we wait...ย April Fool's Day please follow me on pinterest:

Keep it classy and don’t be nasty! ๐Ÿ™‚

My First Draft

(Or maybe the third ๐Ÿ˜€ )

Hello lovelies!ย

(eek I can’t believe I’m doing this again!)

So I’m going to be honest and admit that this is not the first time I have blogged, it’s actually the third. I started, well you wouldn’t even call it a blog because it only consisted of one post, but about two years ago. I never told anyone and it wasn’t a big deal, just me being bored and writing about whatever was on my mind. Then last year I got the great idea to start a blog about my personal style. Long story short I didn’t really commit to it and I just abandoned it all together after a few months. I just wasn’t happy with the pictures I was using or what I was writing about.

I really want it to be different this time. This blog isn’t going to necessarily be a fashion or my personal style. Although, there will be a few posts because I do love fashion and I take pride in dressing well so I would like to document some of that here but I don’t want this to just be a personal style blog. Mainly because there are already so many amazing ones out there already.

This blog is just going to be me. My writing. My thoughts. My adventures. My life. I know that sounds really narcissistic but I’m trying to sound vain I just mean that I’ll be writing about my life experiences or what’s going on in the world that I’m interested in. This sounds very broad I know but I suppose the truth is I still don’t yet really know what kind of a blog this will be, I think I’ll just learn as I go along.

I hope you follow me along as I try to figure out what to do with my life, what to do with my hair, where to go on my next adventure and try and look like I have my life together when really I’m the awkward chick who well just always acts awkward.
