Yes I know you got excited by the mention of style icon Alexa Chung in the title but then words failed you when you saw the mention of mum- no I’m not referring to her own mother in case you were wondering.
The latest fashion project of the 32 y/o British fashion model is a clothing line with M&S called ‘Archive’.
M&S, established in 1884, tasked the fashion guru with exploring their archives of clothing past and designing a collection that both celebrated the brand’s history and reassembled how far they’ve come marrying both old and current trends. The collection is very unique and it’s definitely one of the most special projects Chung has been part of as she says herself.
I’ve always loved Alexa Chung. Her cool, lady like cool chic style is so stylish and effortless. In fact during my French Oral exam I discussed the topic of Fashion and actually spoke about Alexa as my style icon. I’m obsessed with shirt collars and so this is definitely one style we both share, but obviously only one of us looks to the other for inspo.
However not everyone is a fan of Chung. British mum and blogger, Alison Stankard has come forward with an alternative campaign idea for the British Retail brand. Stankard is the creator of blog ‘Totes Inappropes’. The blog focuses on parenting and fashion in a very light-hearted humorous tone. This mom of three doesn’t take herself too seriously, and readers warm to her thanks to her funny personality and quirky personal style.
Stankards view is that M&S should be using models who are real everyday people and she puts herself forward for the job. In her open letter to M&S on Facebook she pitches herself saying “I can advertise your bastion of British style in a none threatening size 12 warts and all kind of way”. Ya gotta give the momma props for her confidently and bravely selling herself openly on social media.
As she puts it Chung is “very edgy and cool and let’s face it, everybody would like to be her but let’s be honest we are all a bit sick with envy at her. I mean she’s got near perfect legs and is so beautiful that Alex Turner has written a whole album about how he hasn’t got over her yet.”
Oh Yes people she did she went there with the break-up.
I love Alexa but this woman is hilarious so I find it dislike her or say she’s being ridiculous. She says she regularly shops there and it would be very cool if M&S teamed up with a blogger mom for a clothing line.

It’s April- Middle of Spring- It’s getting a little warmer and yes hallelujah we have seen some sunshine! I am really getting in the mood for the summer over the last couple of weeks. Which is very unlike me. I’m generally more of a winter girl myself, all that hot chocolate, cosy socks/pj’s, fires and that but no to hell with all that I am sick of the rain and the cold and I would very much like a natural tan thank you.
After a tough start to the year I’m finally getting some of my mojo back. I have returned to my ‘this is just a rough patch there will always be one but happier times are still to come’.
I’ve also been throwing myself into writing. This semester I have done a bit of writing for my college newspaper and I have to say I love it! Journalism and writing is always something I’ve thought about but not really ever gotten into it. But when things weren’t going great I knew I had to pick myself up and find some things to make me happy-like writing. It was the most amazing thing seeing my name printed under an article in a newspaper but also terrifying to think of people reading it. Although the college year is nearly over I’m already looking forward to getting involved with the paper again next year!
Also in march I joined the mac club and have fallen in love with the velvet teddy matte lipstick-Damn it 😀 Usually I don’t like to do what everyone else is doing- it just feels like copying and not being creative. So I never bought into the whole kylie J lip thing until last christmas. My sister asked me to write an xmas list and so I decided why not ask her to get me the lip combo and I’ll see what all the fuss is about 😀 turns out I really like it.The downside- I tend to have dry lips so this definitely isn’t an everyday product. But when I do wear it, I really like how it looks!
I FINALLY got my hair cut! Nothing too drastic just a simple trim. I haven’t been too happy with how my hair has been looking this last while so I wanted to get some life put back into it. And now it’s all about maintaining and styling. I’ve used a lot of products since I cut my hair up short the first time so I think I might do a post all about short hair soon!
St Paddy’s day was a fun day out as I met up with some friends from school that I don’t get to see that often because they’re doing the leaving cert and I’m in my first year of college. I waved all healthy thoughts and didn’t even hesitate when ordering that supermacs 🙂 Afterwards we just chilled in town having a few drinks (18 😉 ) to mark the occasion and catch up. I love those days where you just chill out and have good chats and the lols and even better I bumped into a couple of friends I hadn’t seen in forever!
Now though it’s back to the serious sh*t. As easter break comes to a close I hibernate in the library for a couple days rushing to get assignments done. This is exactly what my life is going to look like though until after the exams. Pretty soon the library will be seeing me a hell of a lot more than my actual home. But ya gotta do what ya gotta do- I’ll be damned if I fail my exams and can’t come back to college in August- Love it too much! 😀
So I guess even though this post is sort of all over the place what I’m trying to say is that March has been good to me. Hope for the same from April…fingers crossed.
So I’m going to be honest and admit that this is not the first time I have blogged, it’s actually the third. I started, well you wouldn’t even call it a blog because it only consisted of one post, but about two years ago. I never told anyone and it wasn’t a big deal, just me being bored and writing about whatever was on my mind. Then last year I got the great idea to start a blog about my personal style. Long story short I didn’t really commit to it and I just abandoned it all together after a few months. I just wasn’t happy with the pictures I was using or what I was writing about.
I really want it to be different this time. This blog isn’t going to necessarily be a fashion or my personal style. Although, there will be a few posts because I do love fashion and I take pride in dressing well so I would like to document some of that here but I don’t want this to just be a personal style blog. Mainly because there are already so many amazing ones out there already.
This blog is just going to be me. My writing. My thoughts. My adventures. My life. I know that sounds really narcissistic but I’m trying to sound vain I just mean that I’ll be writing about my life experiences or what’s going on in the world that I’m interested in. This sounds very broad I know but I suppose the truth is I still don’t yet really know what kind of a blog this will be, I think I’ll just learn as I go along.
I hope you follow me along as I try to figure out what to do with my life, what to do with my hair, where to go on my next adventure and try and look like I have my life together when really I’m the awkward chick who well just always acts awkward.
